Practitioner Code of Conduct

As registered Chinese Medicine practitioners and members of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA), we uphold the highest professional and ethical standards in the care of our patients and in our role within the community.

This Code of Conduct outlines the values and principles that guide our professional behaviour and patient relationships.


1. Honouring the Tradition and Profession

  • Respect and uphold the history and values of Chinese Medicine and the professional standing of AACMA.
  • Conduct ourselves with integrity to maintain public confidence in Chinese Medicine.
  • Comply with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia Code of Conduct for registered health practitioners.
  • Follow all AACMA policies, guidelines, and ethical standards.
  • Avoid any action that could bring disrepute to the profession, the Association, or the public trust placed in practitioners.

2. Acting with Integrity

  • Act with fairness, honesty, and professionalism in all aspects of practice.
  • Comply with all Australian laws, regulations, and ethical standards, including those relating to consent, privacy, research, and safety.
  • Act with diligence and care in the best interests of patients, the community, and the profession.
  • Practise within the bounds of our qualifications, training, and competence.
  • Provide a culturally safe and respectful environment for all patients.
  • Inform the Association if any disciplinary or legal actions arise that may affect our practice.

3. Respecting Our Patients and Community

  • Recognise and uphold the dignity, rights, and autonomy of every individual, regardless of background, beliefs, or identity.
  • Treat all individuals with respect, courtesy, and compassion.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and appropriate conduct at all times.
  • Communicate honestly and respond respectfully to feedback or complaints.
  • Ensure private conduct reflects positively on the profession.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.
  • Collaborate respectfully with other healthcare professionals for the benefit of patients.
  • Use social media responsibly, distinguishing between personal and professional communication.

4. Leading with Passion and Excellence

  • Maintain high standards of knowledge, skill, and professional behaviour through ongoing education and training.
  • Share knowledge and experience to support colleagues and students.
  • Respect and value the contributions of other practitioners and health professionals.
  • Contribute to the advancement and positive reputation of Chinese Medicine in our community.
